Community Partners
Centers for Independent Living (CILs) and People with Disabilities
The goal of RTC/PICL is to create tools that centers for independent living (CILs) and other community organizations can use to help increase community participation among people with disabilities. The participation of CILs and people with disabilities (also called "consumers") is thus essential to the success of this research.
For the first two years of the Center, the two interventions, the Home Usability Program and Out and About, will be refined and tested separately with two CILs:
- Summit Independent Living Center, Inc., in Missoula, Montana
- The Whole Person in Kansas City, Missouri
In subsequent years, the interventions will be integrated and tested nationally with these four CILs:
- accessABILITY in Indianapolis, Indiana
- Disability Link in Atlanta, Georgia
- The Ability Center in Toledo, Ohio
- Transitional Paths to Independent Living (TRIPIL) in Washington, Pennsylvania
