RTC on Community Living Events - Bridging Meeting Connects Research to Policy and Practice
Research can more effectively improve the lives of people with disabilities when researchers, practitioners and policymakers share information and goals. To build these connections, the RTC on Community Living hosted a “Bridging Meeting” on Apr. 16-17, 2013 in Alexandria, Va. This report (PDF available upon request) summarizes the event.
The center’s research partners gathered with advisory panel members and policymakers to explore ways that their research projects can influence both policy and practice. Eight secondary data projects have now produced information that may guide policy decisions related to community living by people with disabilities. This information also ties to five interventions that are testing new ways to enhance community living.
Representatives of the following national organizations attended the Bridging Meeting: the Administration on Community Living, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research, the National Council on Independent Living and the Association of Programs for Rural Independent Living.
